The inquiry questions appear in Chinese college entrance examination as a new question form. Two of their outstanding features are openness and humanism.They are different from the traditional examination system which only is used to select knowledge-based talents. They afford a kind of comprehensive examination on students’ Chinese knowledge, ability and quality. It is very important for us to understand the inquiry questions fully. Because they are not only related to where the development direction of the Chinese college entrance examination, but also the implementation of the modern quality education and what we can gain from the education. So with the application of some related theory on examination, pedagogy,surveying, this article does a cross-year study on the inquiry questions by using some methods of statistics, investigation, comparison and analysis. We should make it clear what characteristics and problems of the inquiry are and how to improve them.Only in this way, we can give some advice on how to make the inquiry questions more scientific and improve Chinese teaching in the middle schools. The article consists of four sections. Details are as follows:Introduction: we do classify the reasons and the significance of the topic and sort out documents. we have got initial results in the state and problems of the inquiry questions research and we state the direction, content and methods of study.Chapter 1: This chapter discusses the background and foundation of the topic. In view of the realistic requirement, there are 2 reasons for the inquiry questions existing: firstly, social development needs many innovative talents.Secondly, it can eliminate the disadvantages of our traditional examination systems.The analyses of the foundation are based on standards of the new curriculum and the explanation of the college entrance examination.Chapter 2: This chapter analyzes the inquiry questions appearing in Chinese college entrance examination in the past five years. Firstly, based on the forms of the test, the inquiry questions are divided into 5 categories. In view of the set of questions, choice for topics, structure, influence and creative prospective, they are questions about how to express opinions, inspire thoughts, choose titles and expand life. Secondly, this chapter explains the content and range of the kind of the test,focusing on its times connotation and humanism connotation. Thirdly, this chapter gives the quality analysis by the means of qualitative and quantitative analysis for Mathematical Statistics.Chapter 3: In this part, the article gives some advice and problems on how to set the inquiry questions. It discusses how to make the test more scientific and efficient.Students’ existing problems reflected by the test can show clearly the direction of the improvement of Chinese teaching in the middle schools.
