The new round of course reform has a high requirement on teachers’ professional quality. The professional quality enhancement for the junior middle schools teachers is helpful in smoothly implementing the new curriculum. The detail contents of junior middle schools English teachers’ professional quality contain all the necessary factors in conducting education activities and completing teaching task, such as the professional attitudes, professional knowledge, and professional ability. In recent years, most of the scholars mainly focus on the study of rural junior middle schools English teachers’ professional quality through the teacher-side questionnaire survey. In order to make necessary compensation to the existing researches, this thesis investigates the English teacher professional quality in urban junior middle schools by conducting the empirical study.This thesis investigates English teachers’ professional quality in urban junior middle schools through literature survey, questionnaire and interview. Firstly, the concept of junior middle schools English teachers’ professional quality is defined, and its key factors are clarified based on the literature investigation. And then, the questionnaire and interview are designed for deeply studying these key factors. Furthermore, the investigating results are analyzed, and the potential issues of English teachers’ professional quality are dug out. Moreover, their deep reasons are explored. Finally, the strategy for improving the junior middle schools English teachers’ professional quality is worked out.The systemic study in this thesis finds that most English teachers’ professional quality of urban junior middle schools is at moderate level, and its potential problems are still challengeable: the teachers’ professional attitude superficially reaches to a satisfactory level, but it is not constant; most of the teachers acquire the solid knowledge of English Linguistics to be adequate to the junior schools English teaching work, but they are commonly lack of general knowledge and be inexperience of education knowledge either; most teachers have the basic professional quality to conduct the normal teaching work, and the reflective ability to optimize their teaching quality as well, but their teaching and research capability should be strengthened. According to the above mentioned issues, this thesis investigates the entire cultivating process of English teachers and proposes a general strategy for enhancing the urban junior middle schools English teachers’ quality through personal developing,cultivation and sociality supporting.
