Graduates’employment at the grassroots level is one of the most important measures to alleviate the employment problem of graduates. Employment condition is a significant measure of the political development and economic conditions of a nation. With the popularization and internationalization of higher education, as well as diversification of education demands, graduates are no longer scarce resources in current society. Grassroots can provide a stage for graduates to grow up. Meanwhile, graduates guarantee the demand of talents in the development of the grassroots level. In 2005, Communist Youth League Central Committee had advocated the graduates that,’to the grassroots, to the first-tier, to the tough conditions, to the place where country and people are in great need’. However, according to the current conditions of graduates in basic level, the problem of employment has not been relieved yet. On one hand, it is also short of talent at the grassroots level. On the other hand, graduates would like to stay at large city rather than go to the basic level.This research is based on status attainment theory perspective, to improve the theory of status attainment and to study the problem that the intention to grassroots smployment of graduates in Beijing,.800 questionnaires are randomly distributed in 7 of 76 universities in Beijing, Dased on stratified sampling method. And then 526 effective replies are collected and analyzed. At the same time, the effect of factors, ascriptive, self-fulfilling and others, on intentions of graduates’grassroots employment is analyzed. Besides, we try to find he relationship between the influencing factors and the inclination for employment.It concludes that the relatively closed social structure dampens the intention of graduates to work at the grassroots level. The intention to grassroots employment of graduates is affected by ascribed factors, such as father’s occupation and whether he or she is the only child. Meanwhile, it’s also influenced by the factors of English proficiency, technical certificates and practice experience. Ascriptive factors play an important role in status attainment of progeny. It shows that China’s social structure is relatively closed and social mobility is poor. Therefore, in the policy level, we need to provide resources and the opportunities to the graduates from the families of lower social economic status, in order to achieve the balance of social structure and avoid social conflict. Based on above research, the policy suggestion to promote the graduates to grassroots emoloyment is put forward.
