The study on the cultivation avenues of students’ competency of preschool education major in Guangdong higher vocational colleges is designed to improve the educational function and social functions of higher vocational education, which has significance of two main aspects including the further improvement of the standard of the kindergarten teachers’ competency and the reference value for the competency training of higher vocational colleges in Guangdong.The integrated use of literature analysis, questionnaire, statistical analysis and other research methods in this study helps the analysis of the domestic and foreign academic achievements and shortcomings in this field, the investigation of the competency requirements for a kindergarten teacher from the preschool nursery industry, the building of competence framework model combined with the current "kindergarten teacher professional standards(trial)" requirement, and the final suggests of cultivation avenues for higher vocational colleges to improve students’ competency of preschool education major. The results of the investigation shows that low efficiency of subject curriculum, poor guidance effect of vocational qualification certificate and less interest in study of student themselves are not conducive to the students’ competency cultivation.According to the requirements for kindergarten teachers’ competency from the industry,the competency framework of preschool education major can be built as a whole with certain parts. Proficient in expertise, strong in professional competences and attitude toward vocation are the three main modules of that completed competency model, and each of this three modules contains a lot of specific elements. In order to improve the situation, this dissertation suggests that higher vocational colleges could improve the quality of professional education in three approaches below: to structure learning field curriculum, to change tradition appraisal way, and to stimulate students’ leaning motivation.
