Grammar teaching plays an important role in English teaching. Generally speaking, Chinese students begin to learn English grammar in junior high school systematically. Grammar is also the most difficult aspect in English learning and teaching.Through investigation the author knows that the main reasons are as follows:students in junior high school have different grammar levels; the complex grammar rules itself; tedious grammar teaching in junior high English class, lack of exposure to any language environment, and lack of interest in grammar learning. Whatever the reasons are, it is quite important for teachers to activate students’ interest in grammar,cultivate students’ grammar learning initiative, guide students to participate in grammar learning activities, and give students the opportunities to communiticate and practice their spoken English in daily life so as to improve their English grammar.“Flipped classroom”has caused wide attention since it was put forward in recent years. There are a lot of researchers and educators abroad who have applied this new teaching mode in real life. There is no doubt that they all have achieved great progress.The literature review shows that the overwhelming majority of the flipped classroom study abroad is not in humanities and social subject, but in science and engineering.From the study at home, we can see that there are more and more researchers and educators pay attention to “flipped classroom” now, but it has not got much application to English teaching, especially grammar teaching in junior high school.According to the current situation of junior high school English grammar teaching,the author bases on the theory of “flipped classroom” and English grammar teaching.The present research will apply “flipped classroom” to grammar teaching in junior high school.Firstly, the thesis describes the research background, purpose and significance;secondly, it shows the literature review on flipped classroom at home and abroad;Thirdly, the author made the experiment on “flipped classroom” in grammar teaching based on the ideas of different educators and researchers. The experiment subjects are two classes from NO.3 middle school affiliated to Qinghai Normal University, and the whole experiment employed questionnaire, grammar test and interview in order to prove that flipped classroom contributes to improving grammar score and English proficiency. Finally, the author summarizes the main findings of the study, limitations and some suggestions for future study.
