With the official release of the new college entrance examination reform program, a prelude to the new college entrance examination reform has started in China. The college entrance examination has reformed from examination subjects, examination form, admission system and other aspects in order to maintain its fairness and justice. In the face of the college entrance examination reform, what challenges will the high school biology education face and how to deal with the new forms of the college entrance examination? With such questions, the author launched an investigation in students and teachers to learn about the current trends of biology teaching as well as the opinions of students and parents on the college entrance examination reform, and discussed how to carry out better high school biology education under the new situation of the college entrance examination reform. Based on the background of the new college entrance examination reform, the methods of questionnaire survey, personal visit, and statistical analysis were used in the study. On the basis of studying the relevant literature, the questionnaire was designed combining with the biology curriculum implementation and the new college entrance examination system, and then investigations to the senior students and biology teachers were conducted.After the investigations, the major challenges of biological subjects for the college entrance examination reform were as follows: partially not fully understanding of the new college entrance examination system by teachers and students, the selection limitations of subjects, the difficulties of teaching implement in unstable classes, the ongoing improvements of teaching evaluation system. Based on the above challenges, the following approaches to these problems were proposed in the study. Firstly, the publicity and interpretation of the new entrance should be strengthened. Secondly, the high schools should respond actively to current college entrance examination reform, strengthen students’ awareness of biology curriculum, raise their studying interests, enhance teachers’ teaching capacity and the career design education. Thirdly, the teaching forms should be reformed, improving teaching equipment, creating the administrative mechanism, reinforcing communication and feedback, integrating biology curriculum resources, optimizing the stratified teaching process, building the learning environment and intensifying the guidance for the learning methods. Fourthly, the current evaluation system should be improved to promote the overall development of students.
