Each Chinese teacher is doing the continuous exploration and efforts to improve the teaching effect. At present, the exploration of this aspect mainly concentrated in ferreting out reading text and improving teaching techniques. While reading text is important, but illustrations resources of Chinese textbook cannot be ignored. Illustration for the teaching materials is the most direct and efficient image resources. It does not need to use other media to play a role and is more convenient and direct to obtain than other teaching materials. However, such efficient resources in teaching practice were left on the shelf or a pen with, and did not play its due value. In order to make the Chinese textbook illustrations produce a proper education benefits and make teachers and students can make full use of the textbook illustrations, the classification, characteristics, function of textbook illustrations and how to carry out the effective application in teaching practice are worthy of our in-depth study and reflection. The introduction part first analyzes the domestic and foreign related research and literature about the textbook illustrations as well as discusses the significance of the study in the field of Chinese teaching. Then the research methods are introduced, such as literature research method, questionnaire survey method, and case designed method.The first part firstly introduces the research object of this thesis and sets the definition of related concepts; secondly it makes a review to the compilation illustrations of junior middle school Chinese textbook, discovering a shift--from scratch of Chinese textbook illustrations of Sue version edition, which changed from nonexistence to existence, from less to more, from rough to fine.The second part firstly makes a detailed classification to the textbook illustration of Sue version edition to hope to get a real understanding of illustrations from the teaching material. Then on the basis of summarizing the characteristics of textbook illustrations, the paper discusses the role of the illustrations from three aspects of stimulating the students’ interest in reading, improving the efficiency of memory and improving the students’ comprehensive ability so as to provide a basis of writing this thesis.The third part finds the problems in the actual teaching from the actual middle school Chinese teaching using the method of questionnaires and interviews, and analyzes the reasons for the low efficiency of the use of textbook illustrations.In the fourth part, the paper puts forward the suggestion of optimizing illustration teaching from two aspects of prepared illustration and used illustration. The prepared illustration cannot do without the joint efforts of painters of the textbook illustrations in textbooks, the textbook editor, teachers and student. While used illustration needs to start from all aspects of teaching and use different types of illustrations in different links to achieve different teaching effects.The last part is the conclusion, it explores the prospects of this research based on the summary of the full text, expecting to constantly accumulate theoretical knowledge in the future study and teaching and improving the case designed of the study to make it more scientific and operational.This paper is some of my superficial discussion about textbook illustration, hoping these discussion can provide some reference and help for improving the using efficiency of illustrations in teaching materials, which aims to urge teachers and students who using the Sue version to change the attitude that ignore the textbook illustrations in the past so that illustrations will be full used of in Chinese teaching activities in junior middle school.
