A Research On The Homosexual News Report By The Perspective Of Framing Theory

The homosexuality has existed for thousands of years in Chinese culture. Since ancient times, it’s a very long,zigzag and repeating process, in Chinese cultural context, for the society to cognize the homosexuals and keep an attitude to it. In the long period, the homosexuals emerges in the academic fields and public fields with a pathological image all the time. In April 2001, homosexuality expelled from Chinese Classification and Diagnostic Criteria of Mental Disorders(CCMD-3), it’s the origin of its non-pathology. After this,China’s homosexuals began to fight for the equal human rights publicly instead of suffering the discrimination any longer. The homosexuality starts transforming to one of the public agenda instead of remaining one kind of the sensitive taboo. So homosexual image appears in mass media more and more often, it’s significant to make a research on homosexual news reports by using framing theory.In this research, the main perspective is the framing theory. The researcher analyzes the contents and the texts of the homosexual news reports from 2010 to 2014 on NEWS.163.COM with agenda-setting theory, stereotype theory and media-anomie theory, trying to clarify the change skeleton, deconstruct the text frame and the character frame, analyze the features and the defects of these reports on China’s internet media in this period, and present some reasonable suggestions to it.This research figures out that, the homosexual news reports from 2010 to 2014 on NEWS.163.COM holds some characterizations of stereotype theory such as biases in agenda, writing for fulfilling readers’curiosity, discriminatory word and apocryphal details, and some characterizations of media-anomie theory like bias and stigmatizition. These characterizations are caused by our cultural tradition, public perspective and media operation mode.Based on the above, China’s internet media need some improvement in basic cognization, professionalism and diversified values, it’s the way to produce quality homosexual news reports in the future.
