Objective:This study was to explore the prevalence of sub-health status in senior high students and its relations with school adjustment and personality characteristics. Methods:A total of 1288 senior high school students were sampled by convenient method and investigated by Multidimensional Sub-health Questionnaire (MSQA), Scale of School Adjustment for High School Students (SSAHSS) and Neuroticism Extraversion Openness Five-Factor Inventor (NEO-FFI). According to scores of MSQA, all samples divided to healthy group, physical sub-health group, psychological sub-health group and physical-psychological sub-health group. The scores of NEO-FFI, school adjustment in different sub-health group were compared by analysis of variance. The correlation analysis also carried out between score of each dimensionality of MSQA and the factor scores of school adjustment and NEO-FFI. With MSQA dimensions as the dependent variable, the school adjustment and NEO-FFI factor scores for the independent variables, we conduct multiple stepwise regression analysis.Results:1. The prevalence of sub-health in senior high students:It is 27.8%(358/1288) for the detections of sub-health status in all students. The detection of senior high school students with physical sub-health status was 7.7%, the detection of those students with psychological sub-health status was 10.2% and the detection of those students with physical-psychological sub-health status was 9.9%. There is no difference for the rate of sub-health status between different gender, grade and school type.2. The relation between school adjustment and sub-health status in senior high students:All dimension scores of SSAHSS in physical sub-health group, psychological sub-health group and physical-psychological sub-health group were all significantly lower than those in healthy group(LSD, SE=0.041-0.067, P<0.05), but there is no difference for the score of school attitude dimension between physical sub-health status group and heathy group. The scores of SSAHSS in three sub-health groups were negatively related to all dimension scores of MSQA(r=-0.174- -0.458, P<0.05). It is different for different gender, grade and school type in factor scores of SSAHSS between three sub-health group and healthy group.3. The relation between personality characteristics and sub-health status in senior high students:The dimension scores of NEO-FFI in physical sub-health group, psychological sub-health group and physical-psychological sub-health group were significantly higher than those in healthy group(SE=0.560-0.634, P<0.05), but the openness and agreeableness dimensions scores in three sub-health group lower than healthy group (SE=0.405-0.466, P<0.05).The score of neuroticism dimension in three sub-health group was positively related to all dimension scores of MSQA(r=0.236-0.348, P<0.05), while the scores of extraversion, openness, agreeableness and conscientiousness dimensions in three sub-health group was negatively related to all dimension scores of MSQA(r=-0.188- -0.233, P<0.05). It is different for different gender, grade and school type in factor scores of NEO-FFI between three sub-health group and healthy group.4. The multiple stepwise regression analysis of personality characteristics and school adjustment on sub-health:The multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that the main factors influencing physical sub-health were academic adjustment, school attitude, class activity adjustment, peer relationship and neuroticism(R2=0.257, F=8.273, P=0.005).For psychological sub-health, the main influencing factors were academic adjustment intimation of teacher-student relationship, peer relationship, neuroticism and agreeableness(R2=0.208, F=5.850, P=0.017). Whereas, those main factors influencing physical-psychological sub-health were academic adjustment, emotion adjustment, peer relationship, neuroticism and openness(R2=0.329, F=4.012, P=0.047).Conclusions:1. The prevalence of sub-health is high that the state of sub-health was very common in senior high students.2. There is relationship between school adjustment and sub-health status included physical sub-health psychological sub-health and physical-psychological sub-health.3. There is relationship between personality characteristics and occurrence, severity of sub-health status included physical sub-health psychological sub-health and physical-psychological sub-health...
