A Mother Upbringing In Junior High School Students, The Relationship Between Independent Personality And School Adjustment

The school adaptation condition of adolescent students is not only influence their physicaland mental health in school, but also plays an inestimable role in their whole life development.The maternal style in family is essential for self-supporting personality and school adaptation ofadolescent students. Therefore, this study using the S-EMBU-C, Self-supporting PersonalityScale for Adolescent Students and School Adaptation Inventory for Junior Students to investigate798junior high school students, based on stating conception, structure, influencing factor andcurrent research of maternal style, self-supporting personality and school adaptation. The aim ofthe present study was to investigate the triadic relation, and offer an educational proposalaccording our results. The results showed:(1) There were significant effects of gender, grade, boarding or non-boarding of junior’smaternal style. For the over protection dimension, the boys got significant higher score than thegirls. For the emotional warmth dimension, the first grade junior high school students’ scorewere the highest, and the lowest were the second grade. For the rejection dimension, theboarding students’ score were significant higher than the non-boarding students.(2)There were significant effects of gender, grade, boarding or non-boarding of junior’sself-supporting personality. On the levels of interpersonal independence, interpersonal opening,personal flexibility and personal initiative, girls’ score were significant higher than boys. For theinterpersonal initiative dimension, the first grade junior high school students’ score weresignificant higher than the second grade. For the personal initiative dimension, the first gradejunior high school students’ score were significant higher than the second and third grade. Formost dimensions and aggregate score of self-supporting personality, the boarding students’ scorewere significant less than non-boarding students.(3)There were significant effects of gender, grade, boarding or non-boarding of junior’sschool adaptation. For school adaptation, the girls did better than boys; the first grade junior highschool students were best, and the second grade were worst; the non-boarding students did betterthan the boarding students, their score on all dimension of school adaptation were higher than theboarding students.(4)For the relationship between maternal style and school adaptation of junior high schoolstudents, the emotional warmth dimension of maternal style was significant positively correlatedwith all dimensions of school adaptation. And abject and over protection dimensions of maternalstyle were significant negatively correlated with all dimensions of school adaptation. (5)For the relationship between self-supporting personality and school adaptation of juniorhigh school students, the dimensions of self-supporting personality were significant positivelycorrelated with all dimensions of school adaptation, except that personal flexibility dimes ionwas negatively correlated with dimensions of school adaptation.(6)For the relationship between maternal style and self-supporting personality of junior highschool student, the emotional warmth dimension of maternal style was significant positivelycorrelated with dimensions of self-supporting personality except personal flexibility dimension;abject and over protection dimensions were significant negatively correlated with interpersonalresponsibility, interpersonal opening, interpersonal flexibility, personal independence, personalresponsibility, personal initiative, and aggregate score of self-supporting personality.(7)The maternal emotional warmth style has a positive prediction to school adaptation. Onthe contrary, abject and over protection style has a negative prediction to school adaptation.Self-supporting personality could also predict school adaptation. Self-supporting personality isan incomplete mediating factor between maternal style and school adaptation.
