With the increasing number of “whole family” migrant farmers, the number of school-age children who come to city with their parents is continuously growing. Offering them the same education quality as the children born in cites is of crucial importance to educational equity, urban development and the development of these children.Existing research on education need and social support of migrant workers’ children mainly focus on the country, laws, regulations and policies. Although this kind of study will help us to understand the status of this field, the theories are too vague to put into practice. This study take Nomination Methods by Burt when he was studying core discussion network of American and Ecological System Theory by U. Bronfenbrenner for reference. According to Social Support Theory, the relation between provider and receiver of the support and the close ties in blood, geography and work, I divided social support into four parts——family, school, peer group and neighbor.This thesis studies the current situation of education need and social support of migrant workers’ children and explores the problems and figures out the help they need and finally puts forward the strategies of the optimization of social support.To achieve the target of this research, I mainly adopt literature research method, interview method and case analysis to collect related articles and conclude theories relate to social support. I also did some field research in a junior middle school in a county, Panzhihua City. I understood the main content and shortage of social support by having conversations with these children’s parents, teachers, peers and neighbors and I found the main problem they are facing and the help the need in education.By analyze and conclude the data, this study puts forward the strategies of the optimization of social support and produces effects adequately by clarify work points of each support provider. Taking school as a main force and the family as a bond, build a linkage mechanism between main support bodies and highlight the advantages and complement each other. At the mean time, the government and the school should cultivate their ability to use and to develop social support and change passively accepting support to actively searching for support.
