| STS is the acronym of science, technology and society, which combines the science education with the arts education, focuses on study requirements and relationship among science, technology and society, provides healthy environment for students to learn science, and improves students’ ability to solve problems and their cultivation in science. STS study has been concerned over 30 years. As the base in chemistry study, chemistry teaching in Junior middle school aims not only to make students learn basic knowledge of chemistry and construct basic ideas in chemistry, but also to guide students to experience the procedure of science research, to educate their practical ability.Besides, Chemistry teaching in Junior middle school also tries to make students know the relations among chemistry, technology, society and environment, and to improve their cultivation in science.Guided by STS theory, the research summarizes STS practices in teaching chemistry of junior middle school on the base of the study of curriculum standards and analyzing textbooks. It structures STS strategies in classroom design and practices, such as 1.to analyze students needs accurately, 2.to choose STS materials carefully,3. to design teaching goals accurately, 4.to design classroom activity accurately,5. to care the accordance in and after class, 6. to value students on the whole. Based on the fractional design, the research emphasized on STS strategy in classroom design and practice, with Conserve Water at the initial stage of chemistry teaching, Fire and Extinguish at the mid stage and On the Secret of Tinfoil at the last. It tends to guide students to know, experience, understand STS more deeply and improve their problem-solving ability.After STS practice, the writer carried on tests at different stages and questionnaire and drew the following conclusion. They are: 1. STS classroomteaching can stir students’ interests in learning chemistry and improve their participation in class. 2.STS teaching can consolidate students’ basic knowledge and skills, esp. applied and probing knowledge. 3. STS teaching can strengthen their awareness of STS and make them solve practical problem with chemistry knowledge. |
