In current education, the new curriculum reform is in full swing. Also, the geography education is changing. The purpose and aim is to promote students’ comprehensive and coordinated development. The ordinary high school "geography curriculum standard (experiment)" explicitly requests the student to "care about our country’s basic geographic conditions, pay close attention to environment and development of our country, enhance the emotion of loving the motherland and hometown". To cultivate students paying attention to society and paying attention to the livelihood of the people is one of the important goals of geography new curriculum reform. Teacher need to pay attention to students’ practice ability exercise; cultivate the students’ localism, patriotic feelings, which requires geography teachers to change the old teaching idea, teaching goal, teaching content and teaching methods, regard the students as the master of the classroom, guides the student to participate in class, rather than hard boring teacher centralized teaching mode.Teachers can regard the local geography as a breakthrough for the development of quality education. The natural environment, natural resources, industry, agriculture, transportation, cultural tradition around students can be a comprehensive study of local geography. Carrying out effective and new exploratory practice, not only can make up for the deficiency of the current textbooks, but also stimulate students’ enthusiasm for learning. It creates a platform for building the geographical knowledge and developing geography ability. Also, it can build up student’s localism, patriotism. It stimulates the student to construct hometown, repay society, and serve the motherland in the futureThe purpose of local teaching can cultivate students’ practice ability and innovation ability. In reality, local geography teaching in senior high school is not optimistic. On the one hand, teachers don’t have enough time to extend geographical knowledge, On the other hand, local geographical need enough local material. However, teachers are lack of local materials. Furthermore, middle school geography is treated as less important. So, students are lack of basic knowledge of geography, which increased the difficulty of teaching.Based on the spirit of the new curriculum reform, the first part is the introduction, mainly introduces the connotation of the local geography, research background, research significance, research contents and train of thought, local geography teaching research status in our country and foreign country. The author found that foreign local geography teaching research and application is mature, its local geography teaching is practicality and abundant. Students have a variety of forms in communication expression.The second part is present situation analysis of high school in Dan Jiang Kou city. The author adopted questionnaire survey method and interview method to survey the cognition and understanding of local geography teaching, which found the reality is not ideal, it has to do with teachers’ individual ability, students’ personal quality, social examination mechanism, the relevant institutional support. But the open way of learning received high praise from teachers and students, especially the geography practice. Visible, paying attention to the growth of the students’ experiences and ability conform to students’ learning needs. It is the source of geographical education.The third part is on the local teaching principles and strategies. According to the author’ teaching experience, the author puts forward that effective local geography teaching must follow the principle of spirituality, safety principles, the principle of iconicity and the practice. On this basis, the author puts forward to building the open class, adopting abundant practical form, developing local geographical materials, using multimedia teaching means, strengthening the cooperation between the schools and social organizations. At the end of the content of this chapter, the author takes "wu dang flower valley" as a case, which suggests that local teaching form has the flexibility, the content is fresh and the emotions are permeable. Therefore, teachers must be good at mining and processing local geographical resources. As a result, our education is effective.The fourth part is the conclusion and discussion. According to the former three chapters, the author summarized the article and pointed out the deficiency.
