Today, the society is an information society, in the background of such information technology, the target of high school geography education has also been changed. Modern education no longer paid the most attention to the knowledge learning. Learning ability and survival ability has become the important quality in the contemporary era. Therefore, high school geography education is gradually changed from traditional lecture style to autonomous learning style. However, in a lot of non key senior high schools, due to the students’ poor quality and poor learning ability, the effect of autonomous learning is not good, resulting in difficulties for these schools to promote autonomous learning ways.This research aimed at the current situation of the difficulties in promoting autonomous learning in the ordinary non key senior high schools. Firstly, the author made a practical investigation. Through the questionnaire investigation and interviews of teachers and students, the author summed up three main problems in high school students’ autonomous learning at present. The students are lack of learning motivation, learning objectives and inductive ability. To solve these problems, the author took the modern information technology as the breakthrough and studied on implementation strategy of geography autonomous learning. After applying these teaching strategies to practice, the teaching effect was significantly improved than before according to the feedback of the students.This study was carried out under new curriculum concept on-implementation strategy of geography autonomous learning. Rich network teaching resources, convenient information exchange platform and vivid multimedia presentation can play an important role in helping students’ autonomous learning, mobilizing students’ learning autonomy, guiding students to develop good learning habits and finally finding their own learning methods. This research has a certain reference significance for the majority of front-line teachers.
