The vocabulary teaching is an important part of the English teaching at senior high school. How students get along with the vocabulary has a direct influence on the ability to use English. Focusing on the vocabulary teaching at senior high school is reasonable and feasible, and it has great significance and function on the improvement of students’ grades and abilities. New English Curriculum Standard has made a new claim for the vocabulary teaching at senior high school, focusing on the students, and requiring that the vocabulary teaching should be based on the practical usage of the vocabulary. However, there are many shortcomings in the daily teaching among some areas and teachers. So, pointing at my 3 years’teaching experiences and practical situation and problems, I have studied lexicology, semantics, education and educational psychology. In this paper, I will state relative concepts on the vocabulary teaching at senior high at first, then analyze and sum up the situation and problems of the vocabulary teaching at senior high in Mudanjiang’s high schools in the way of questionnaire survey and interview. Finally, I will put forward some measures.This paper consists of six chapters. They are introduction, literature review, research design, data and analysis, research findings and measures as well as conclusion. Introduction, the first chapter, shows the background, aim and significance of the research and the structure of the paper. Literature review, the second chapter, mainly expounds some relative theories about the vocabulary teaching at senior high, including related concepts, basic theories, principles, goals, content and methods of the vocabulary teaching. Besides, the practical situation of the research home and abroad is involved. Research design, Chapter Three, is researching on and analysing the vocabulary teaching at senior high in some Mudanjiang’s high schools by means of questionnaire survey and interview. In this chapter, based on the aim of learning about the practical situation of vocabulary teaching, knowing the methods of teaching and improving studying efficiency, I set up two questions:what is the level of the fundamental condition, content, practical methods, the effect evaluation of the vocabulary teaching in Heilongjiang Province? How do we think about the research results and what measures should we put forward? Then, my research subjects are 113 English teachers of senior high schools in Mudanjiang. My instruments are questionnaire survey and interview, and then I collect and analyse these data. The forth chapter is data and analysis. In this chapter, I can get the research results by analysing the data of questionnaire and interview. Research findings and measures, the fifth chapter, is based on the results of analysing data, and I sum up the research findings:English teachers are lack of creativity of vocabulary teaching, don’t have the consciousness of guiding students how to recite the vocabulary or have difficulty in carrying it out with the consciousness, and don’t pay attention to develop students’ interest in vocabulary teaching. Aiming to these findings, there are some measures which I want English teachers to take:improving the creativity of teaching, teaching the strategies of learning and develop students’ interests of vocabulary learning. Finally, the conclusion part shows the main conclusions of this paper. It is the sixth chapter.
