Vocational Core Competence is the basic capability in addition to the post(PRO) specific competencies, which is required by anyone in any post for his whole life. It is the necessary skill for the workers in employment, and also the key to success. Strengthening vocational school students’ vocational core competence is helping to train high quality talents and enhance their employability and competitiveness.On the basis of literature review, this paper takes Chengdu senior technical school as an example to explore new ways of developing the core competence of students in vocational schools. Based on the investigation of the present situation of vocational students’ vocational core competence, this study puts forward the necessity of cultivating students’ professional core competence, and then carries out the practice research on the training of the students’ vocational core competence, and combined with the activities of the former, and the latter two stages of the students, to analyze and demonstrate the effectiveness of the extracurricular activities as the carrier to develop the vocational core competencies of students.This paper is divided into five chapters to discuss the extracurricular activities as the carrier to cultivate the vocational school students’ vocational core competence of the practice research. They are: literature review and problem, research design and content, investigation on the current situation of Vocational Students’ professional core ability and the requirements of enterprises, the practice of cultivating students’ professional core competence based on the outside activities, conclusions.The research objects are the 200 students(120 boys and girls 80) from Chengdu Senior Technical School, who are selected randomly in the class of 2013 participating in the training of 2000 students. Among them, 132 students are from the 2nd industry majors(35 students’ major is Mechanical Engineering, 35 students’ major is Electrical Engineering, 30 students’ major is Electronics Specialty, 32 students’ major is Vehicle Maintenance), and 68 students are from the 3rd industry(35 students’ major is Economic and Trade Management, 33 students’ major is Logistics). I evaluate the effect of the activity by using Chengdu Senior Technical School students’ special ability evaluation scale which is developed by the Research Center of Xihua University Mental Health Education Service and Chengdu Senior Technical School.The results of the study show that:Through the practical and effective extracurricular activities, it really can cultivate and improve the vocational core competence of students, such as environmental adaptation, communication, cooperation, problem solution, innovation, self management, information processing and professional ideas. At the same time, the vocational core competence is a sustainable development ability, It can help students in the future to gain a firm foothold in the society, and to cope with the changing positions and occupations, and to move towards higher levels of job and career. So it is an effective way to cultivate the core competence of the students in the carrier of the extracurricular activities.
