Along with the needs of the current education, teaching reform,puts forward a series of new requirements, such as teaching should pay attention to student’s study enthusiasm, pay attention to the students’ interest in learning, individual difference, prompting students all-round development, meet the learning needs of different students. With new learning style, such as the concept of autonomous learning, cooperative learning, inquiry learning is put forward and implemented, the inquiry-based learning as a new approach to learning and learning activities, take the student as the main body, under the guidance of teachers by the student active learning, cooperative learning with classmates and teachers,discover problems, solve problems, to get the process of knowledge.This article mainly USES the literature material method,experimental method, questionnaire survey method, interview method, mathematical analysis and other research methods,selection of hunan normal university sports institute 2015 freshmen of the two classes, were randomly divided into experimental group and control group, each group of 15 people trackand field of shot put teaching experiments. Teaching experiment contents according to the syllabus, according to the teaching plan,various teaching methods in the experimental group and control group respectively. Two groups based on sport ability, learning,learning environment, teachers, learning hours, such as basic conditions have homogeneity, through the teaching experiment for16 hours, discusses two class teaching effect.Experimental results show that:1 、 the implementation of inquiry-based learning in the track and field teaching skills can make students more clearly and to raise the student to study the technical practice ability.2、utilizing inquiry-based learning in the track and field teaching,make students’ emotional experience more rich; Raise the learning enthusiasm of students, play able to students’ active learning;Make more clear about the learning goals, let the students can do better in learning plan; To make the students more frequent interaction between the state, let students work together to obtain the successful experience; Make classroom teaching atmosphere more active.3、the inquiry-based learning applied to the track and field teaching, based on the characteristics of shot put project, design of inquiry-based learning solutions, in the teaching processthrough the teacher’s guidance, carefully organize the teaching process, give priority to in order to exert students’ subjective initiative, can meet the needs of the students’ physical and mental development.4、inquiry-based learning applied to the track and field teaching,there are some limitations, in the inquiry-based learning needs the support of hardware and software facilities; In track and field teaching is suitable for the content of the inquiry-based learning to choose can arouse the students’ interest in exploring study;Teachers’ lack of exploring consciousness, the student to carry on the inquiry-based learning in the process of the lack of the teacher’s guidance.
