As one of the four basic English skills, reading plays an important role in the process of English learning. The Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standard lists five levels for students in different grade to develop students’ comprehensive English ability. As for the competence of reading comprehension, students are supposed to get not only literal comprehension, but also interpretive comprehension including passage summary, inferential capability, information explaining, sentence transformation,etc. However, due to the traditional English reading teaching, when the students are reading, most of them just learn to find basic information and memorize the language points instead of analyzing the passage and finding deep information. The ability of retelling or reciting the passage is still weak. It leaves obstacles for reading efficiency and decreases the reading interest of students as well. In order to solve these problems, this thesis reviews Constructionism Theory, Brunner Discovery Method and Schema Theory,uses mind map as a tool, and introduces a reading learning plan based on mind map. According to what students read, this reading learning plan presents the passage by choosing central topic, selecting key words and using lines to connect the sentences,words and pictures. It aims to help students comprehend the passage, analyze the structure and also recite it quickly.The thesis analyzes the effectiveness of the reading learning plan based on mind map by testing, making questionnaire and interviewing. According to the analysis, the thesis find:Firstly, this reading learning plan can make the complex reading passage concise, and make its structure clear and logical. Secondly, this reading learning plan can create certain situation for the explaining of the language points in the reading passage. It can help students understand,memorize and draw inferences to the language points. Thirdly,the reading learning plan can help students recite the reading passage more quickly and memorize it longer.
