According to New Curriculum Standard of high school, it is advocated to implement the task-based teaching mode in high schools. Therefore, the teachers should guide the students to achieve the teaching objectives, feel the success of the learning, and adjust the strategies and emotions during their learning process through the means of the self-perception, experience, practice, and participated cooperation. This is helpful for the students to form the positive attitudes towards the English learning and promote the improvement of the ability and level of the students to apply the language. It is a kind of advanced teaching mode and has higher applicable values for the English teaching. It has important meaning to improve the quality and efficiency of the English reading teaching. The main aim of this paper is to research and analyze the applicable conditions of the task-based teaching method in the English reading class in high schools. During the writing process, this paper takes advantage of the questionnaire survey, the interviewing survey, and referring analysis to investigate and analyze the current situations to apply and implement the task-based teaching in the reading teaching in three high schools of Hainan Guo Xing Middle School、Qiongshan Middle School and Qiongshan Huaqiao Middle School in Haikou, Hainan. It mainly analyzes the current situations of applying the task-based teaching in three high schools from two perspectives of the teachers and students. Based on the analysis, this paper discloses the main issues in the cognitive aspect, implementation process, applying strategies and applying effects and the corresponding reasons for these issues of applying the task-based teaching to the English reading teaching of the high schools. The results of survey show that the effect of task-based teaching in English reading teaching in the three senior high schools in Haikou has been recognized by most teachers, but they do not think highly of it. Most students fully accept the task-based teaching method, but they do not evaluate its effect highly. There are some problems in the implementation of task-based teaching in reading class, which is reflected in the teachers’ understanding of the task-based teaching. They still use the traditional teaching method, not use task-based teaching so frequently. The task-based teaching can not play its effect. Then it puts forward the corresponding measures based on this. It aims to promote the implementation of the task-based teaching in the English reading teaching of the high schools in order to finally achieve the objectives of improving the quality of English reading teaching and improving the ability of the high school students to apply English knowledge comprehensively.
