Lu Zuofu(1893—1952), named Lu Kuixian, also called as Zuofu, was born in Hechuan, Chongqing Municipality. In 1920 s and 1930 s, Lu Zuofu, who launched a campaign to activate local economy and science education in several villages in Sichuan Province, was known as “three leading members” in countryside construction with James Yen and Liang Shuming and left a significant chapter in reforming Chinese rural education. In the countryside construction, Lu Zuofu not only reformed the fundamental education, but also established libraries, museums and academic journals. By those public science popularization activities, Lu Zuofu opened the door for the people in the western hinterland in China, where filled with backward, reclusive and isolated villages. We believe that the research of this dissertation can not only help for resolving the problems with fundamental education and technology and cultural dissemination in the current countryside, that meet the Construction of a New Socialist Countryside needs, but also provide an alternative yet somewhat complementary approach for the academic research in this field.Apart from the introduction(Chapter I) and the conclusion, this dissertation is mainly composed of four chapters:Specifically, in chapter II, we firstly discuss the background of the Lu Zuofu’s Science Education Thoughts, which included the era background, several persons, important things and their impacts on Lu Zuofu.In Chapter III, on the basis of Chapter II, we try to analyze the main content and practices of the Lu Zuofu’s Science Education Thoughts by analyzing the educational position, action, the form and the way.Chapter IV describes the historical assessment of the Lu Zuofu’s Science Education Thoughts. In the first section, we conclude the characteristics of the Lu Zuofu’s Science Education Thoughts with a comparison between the Lu Zuofu’s Science Education Thoughts and that of James Yen and Liang Shuming. We then analyze the historic contribution of the Lu Zuofu’s Science Education Thoughts in the second section.Chapter V dissertates the enlightenment of the Lu Zuofu’s Science Education. We do acknowledge that there are some historical limitations with the Lu Zuofu’s Science Education, based on the analysis in chapters II, III and IV, we can dissertate several enlightenments of the Lu Zuofu’s Science Education contacting with how to deal with problems with fundamental education and disseminate the technology and cultural in the current countryside.
