This instruction is formed through communicative teaching theories, constructivist learning techniques, a child’s physiological profile and drawing on the conclusion of previous studies to complete this comprehensive instruction. This instructional design was conducted at the Shen Wai International School, which is aim to improve the ability of the learner to use Chinese for communication.The thesis introduces the definition of Chinese role-play teaching, Chinese role-play teaching mode and learning target; systematically expounds the elements of Chinese role-play teaching design, the way of effectively using the role-play teaching design in TCSL for children. Also, this thesis introduces and applies some popular foreign language teaching concepts, such as theme-based teaching, reverses psychology teaching techniques and utilizes language learning benchmarks in United States etc. After the implementation of this teaching design, also calls for the use of review documentation to measure performance of students. This thesis aims to offer enlightenment and to provide a certain reference for Chinese teachers who teach children Chinese as a second language.
