With a new round of scientific, technical and industrial revolution emerging throughout the world, the development of education has attracted considerable attention. As a significant part of the cause of education, the non-government funded education is increasingly receiving attention from the state and the society. Originated in the 1980 s, the non-government funded education has received strong support from the state during the past thirty years, and rapidly improved in teaching quality, teaching facilities and other aspects through constantly exploring the method of development. But compared with some economically developed countries, there is still a gap. Short history of establishment, shortage of teachers, weakness of campus culture, the lower overall quality of students, the deficiency of fund investment and other aspects are the primary causes of slow development of the non-government funded education, among which the quality of students of the private university is particularly striking. Some students haven’t formed good habits, so when they enter the free university, they are totally immersed in the fictitious world and rarely be able to plan their lives due to the lower self-control. In this case, merely conducting the professional education could hardly work, for this reason, it is necessary to carry out the ideological education and vocational guidance to let students fully understand the work of their majors, difficulties will be confronted with at work and corresponding countermeasures. The work above is undertaken by the counselors of the non-government funded education, therefore, there is no doubt that they are the vital part of the development of the non-government funded education, and the construction of a counselor team of the non-government funded education is the prerequisite of the ideological and political education, cultivation of the sense of social responsibility and the establishment of correct outlook on life of college students. With the development of internationalization, higher education becomes a popular trend in this new period. But confronted with the new challenges, the development of the non-government funded education and the work of counselors become more difficult. For the purpose of establishing high-quality non-government funded education system with school-running characteristics, high educational level and rigorous school-running attitude, it is necessary to strengthen the training of the counselors of the non-government funded education, improve the work efficiency and overall quality of counselors and carry out the cultivation of ideology and morality, self-discipline, outlook on life and values of college students. University Counselors play an indispensable role in the construction of private university. As the core force of college development, they know the life and learning of college students best and as the powerful communicators of campus spirit, they contribute to maintaining normal teaching order, organizing the construction of campus culture and strengthening the construction of school climate and study atmosphere. Recognizing this, the State has issued relevant document and carried out new policies to encourage the construction of university counselors. Nevertheless, there remain various difficulties in time of new development period. Besides, there exist few feasible programs related to the construction of a counselor team in private universities. In this case, the author will strikingly discuss on the unsound educational mechanism and immature construction of counselor teams in private universities and deeply reflect on how to construct a counselor team, maintain stable development, expand popularity and provide a better environment, etc. In this paper, the author adopts scientific research methods by referring to relevant state-issued document, government-executed measures as well as the relevant experience in foreign countries and conducts a survey on the teachers and students through interview, questionnaire and other means in Changchun University of Science and Technology to find out the approach to establish a counselor team in private universities. After scientifically realizing the importance of a counselor team and recognizing the existing pros and cons in its construction in private universities, the author tries to analyze the feasible approach to establishing a counselor team and find solutions to problems in relevance of infirm objective, unsound system and unreasonable approach.The body of this paper is divided into three parts. In the first part, significance of the construction of a counselor team in private universities is illustrated; in the second part, current situation of the counselor team in Changchun University of Science and Technology is analyzed; in the last part, feasible approaches to and rational advice on establishing a counselor team in private universities are proposed.
