This paper makes detailed analysis on the error corpus in Chinese modal verbs by Thai students, which is collected from 10-month Chinese teaching practice conducted in the Assumption Thonburi College of Thailand by the author. In combination of the grammatical features, syntactic structures and pragmatic relations of modal verb itself, this paper also elaborately analyzes the error types, error reasons and coping strategies in order to make a contribution to the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language by the teaching practice results provided by the author. This paper covers three parts. Part one addresses a brief introduction of the topic selection reasons, purposes, error corpus source, research background and relevant academic achievements. Part two presents the current theories from aspects of the meaning, grammatical features and type division and personal views with emphasis on the main body of Chinese modal verb, which bridges the preceding and the following. Especially in the type division, the author divides the modal verbs from perspectives of significance, function and syntactic structure in all directions. As the key part, part three discusses the error types, error reasons and coping strategies. With the concept of top-level design, the author recalls the thoughts of origin and states personal opinions from macroscopic influencing factors of the teaching methods, teaching materials, teacher quality and cultural transmission for the coping strategies.
