Sport specialization teaching in senior middle schools refers to break the traditional hierarchical specialization teaching according grades and classes, based on students’ interests and skills. It is considered to stimulate students’ interests in sports better in senior middle school and improve their sport qualities and physical cultural quality effectively.With the methods of literature review, questionnaire, expert interviews and mathematical statistics, this paper studies the sport teaching in 17 pilot senior middle schools in sport specialization teaching in Shanghai from four aspects, organizational structure, rules and regulations, teaching programs, courses selecting, courses, grades and teaching conditions managing. By comparison analysis, this paper finds that:1. There are some institutional deficiencies in sport specialization teaching in senior middle schools of Shanghai. And the organization structures of special teaching are linear and matrix, which are simplex.2. The teaching programs in sport specialization teaching management are mainly made by sports teaching and research office in senior middle schools of Shanghai, and the engagement of Specialization Leading Group and Office of Academic Affairs in them is low.3. The way of selecting courses in sport specialization teaching management is an old one, filling the volunteer form, which would bring high workload to the teachers and error prone. The curriculum schedules are made by considering the cultural classes and physical classes in 80 percents of senior middle schools.4. The courses selecting in sport specialization teaching management is made in the first semester in grade one, which is reasonable. It’s helpful to carry out the specialization teaching work to make the students select the sport specialization based on their interests The class size remains at about 30 students, but that of non-key senior middle school is mostly more than 30. The grades are made by the Office of Academic Affairs and sports teaching and research office and sent to the student in the form of transcripts.5. The distributions of the education background, job title and age of the teachers in sport specialization are reasonable, and they can meet the requirement of sport specialization teaching. However, the levels of expertise of the teachers are not high, but the difficulty of teaching is. The sites, equipments and facilities are better in key senior middle schools than the non-key ones.
