Multiple representation teaching mainly refers using multiple representations for teaching consciously and systematically via different means. Using of multiple representations teaching can help to reduce the span of students’ thinking, can help students build knowledge system and improve students’ thinking quality.Firstly, this paper made a theoretical discussion about multiple representations teaching, divided the physical representation forms into six and defined the meaning of the multiple representations teaching. Secondly, investigated the status of high school physics teaching using multiple representations from three aspects, Counted representation forms in textbooks and found that there are all kinds of representation forms in textbooks; students’ survey showed that students lacked the ability of multiple representations; the interview revealed that teachers had the consciousness of multiple representations teaching but lack of systematic guidance. Thirdly, multiple representations teaching is mainly used for teaching mathematics and chemistry but few in physics, so this paper proposed design principles of multiple representations teaching based on the theory and research, selected contents of multiple representations teaching in high school physics and gave examples; summarized the methods of multiple representations teaching in different class. Finally, selected the contents of the mechanical part, designed and practiced the multiple representations teaching case of unconventional class, and summarized.
