Abstract:The population in rural areas accounts for the majority of China’s population. And Henan is a big province with a large population. Comparing to the education level in cities in our country, the overall educational standard is relatively lower in rural areas. The Chinese government pays great attention to the rural education. And this encourages the author to make this study. Taking Yongcheng Countryside Junior High Schools in Henan Province as an example, and based on the current situation of English grammar teaching in junior high schools in rural areas, this study aims to analyze the overall teaching and learning pattern of English grammar in junior high schools in rural areas and offer its suggestions. Teachers and students from the three rural junior high schools in Yongcheng City have been chosen as the objects of the questionnaires. And the methods of literature review, questionnaire analysis and interview survey are used in this researching. The relevant research findings contributed by previous scholars are referenced to in this study.This thesis consists of six parts, chapter one is the introduction, which includes the research background, research purpose and significance, research methods, and the thesis frame. In the second chapter, correlative concepts are defined and the features of teaching and learning of English grammar in junior high schools are expounded. Besides, this chapter also includes literature review, which introduces the research situation both at home and abroad, chapter three is about the theories and requirements of English grammar teaching. In chapter four, the data obtained from the questionnaires are processed and analyzed and their results are presented. In chapter five, according to the above statistical analysis, problems of English grammar teaching in Henan rural junior high schools are expounded and the causes of these problems are analyzed. And then some suggestions to improve English grammar teaching in junior high schools in Henan province countryside have been proposed, chapter six is the conclusion and the limitations of the study.
