Schema is the knowledge and experience structure stored in people’s mind. Using schema theory in English reading teaching can activate the existing knowledge and students would have a deep understanding of the reading material. This thesis is about a case study of English reading teaching in senior high school based on schema theory. At the beginning, the related information about schema and reading was stated so as to do foreshadowing for the following study. After that, in order to see whether it is effective or not when the schema theory is used in English reading in senior high school, first, the author carried out a research about the use of schema in English reading in senior high school among students, and analyzed the data. Then, based on the result, the author analyzed relative factors and devised an instructional design of a reading and vocabulary part combining schema theory and instructional design with English reading teaching and applied it in Senior One. The result met the expectations--this teaching pattern was effective and students comprehended the reading text better than before.Teachers should realize that linguistic schema, content schema and formal schema are not isolated. Combining the three makes reading easier. So the author proposed suggestions on the use of schema theory in senior high school English reading teaching, aiming to promote reading teaching. It is hoped that future researches would pay more attention to the combination of schema theory and English reading teaching, and conduct further studies on it.
