Abstract/Summary:
The paper reports on the instructional design of an English reading class based on schema theory in senior high school in an attempt to get the implications for English reading teaching.The participants in the study were students of one class of Senior Grade Two from one of senior high schools in Nankai District in Tianjin. The participants were asked to do the questionnaire to help the researcher do the learner analysis and their actions were observed by their English teacher when the teaching plan was applied in the class.The procedures are as follows:firstly, the author, guided by the instructional design model, designed the teaching procedure of English reading class based on schema theory. Then, she applied the teaching procedure into the target class to check the effect of the teaching plan. Next, the author evaluated the teaching procedure and did the self-reflection through the feedback of the observer and the audio-record of this lesson. It is revealed that students were active to take part in the activities of interpreting their feelings. And the activities of mapping had positive effect on students’reading comprehension. They also acquired the reading strategies in this reading class.
