Physics is an experimental science in essence. All the theories of physics need tobe verified by experiments. Physical experiment has the common character of mostscientific experiment. Demonstration experiment can guide the students to think aboutphysical phenomenon and learn to master theoretical knowledge through showing thespecific phenomena. Demonstration experiment can also stimulate students’ interestof learning physics, improve students’ observation ability and train students’ logicalthinking. Demonstration experiment plays an important role during the formation ofthe theoretical physics structure for students. It can not only help students with thesetting of models combining theory and practice, and also cultivate physical thinkingand the spirit of scientific exploration during long term of demonstration experimentlearning.Demonstration experiment can expand the vision of students as the extension oftheory. On the other side, it can promote the reflection and consolidation of theory.Students can experience the real phenomenon based on principles and formulas. It cancultivate the ability of solving practical problems by using physical knowledgethrough showing how the scientific theory works in the industry and our everydaylife.For the students who don’t major in science or engineering, demonstrationexperiment can be helpful to their own learning and researching by improving theirbasic scientific literacy and giving them a chance to combine physical thoughts andmethods with their majors.This paper investigates the situation of demonstration experiment in collegephysics from both teaching and learning based on the characteristics of thedevelopment of demonstration experiment using the effect as a point, summarizes andanalyses the investigation results and puts forward views and suggestions through lateral correlation.This paper has four major parts:1) Summary of demonstration experiment.2)Investigation on implementing effect of demonstration experiment.3) Investigation onlearning effect of demonstration experiment.4) Suggestions on improving the effect ofdemonstration experiment.Demonstration experiment is used for cooperating the course content. During ademonstration experiment, the teacher is usually the person who operates and thestudents observe. Chapter1introduces demonstration experiment from definition,history, teaching forms, classification and function.Investigation on implementing effect of demonstration experiment aims atteaching implementation in universities though the country. Questionnaires werereceived by emails. The questionnaire includes basic information, teaching tasks,personnel composition, development situation and reasons for some teachingproblems. Suggestions are given by the end of the chapter.The students in grade2at physics department in Jilin University were taken asthe investigation object. Self-reported scale was used in the investigation, includinglearning interest, combining with theory courses, classroom effect, learningconfidence, course evaluation, operating ability and reflection after class. There is anopen question as supplement. Suggestions are also given after analyzing andsummarizing the results of the investigation.There are6about how to improve the effect of demonstration experiment:1)Stimulating learning interest.2) Promoting learning transfer.3) Taking student assubject.4) Improving the evaluation mode.5) Establishing an effective managementmechanism.6) Cultivating students’ comprehensive quality and creative spirit.
