Special children, accounting for a considerable number of the disadvantaged in China, are hardly entitled to equal rights general children have during their educational courses. The lack of inequity in education which has been paid close attentions in education field becomes one of the most popular issues in today’s Chinese society. In order to improve the educational environment for children with special needs, to understand and respect their difficulties and personalities and also to help them achieve self-development at maximum, Chinese government has largely promoted the teaching method "study in general education environments" by encouraging public schools to establish resource rooms to serve as the fundamental of special needs education and the trend of the future educational development.My research focuses on resource room teaching, the essential element in the operation of resource room, giving a theoretically and practically discussion on how the resource room teaching works. Based on special education theories, the research serves as a supplement to teaching optimization and helps to develop further awareness in the benefits that resource room teaching brings to students with special needs. Practically, I expect to find and analyze the weakness of resource room teaching by investigating resource rooms in mainstream schools in order to form perspectives on teaching optimization. I expect my research to be helpful in the improvement and the promotion of resource room teaching.The research takes primary schools in H district, Shanghai as examples.In accordance to inclusive education theory, special education and development of special students theory, it presents an ideal condition which includes teaching ideas, teaching methods, curriculums and teaching strategies. The ideal condition sets up a standard for the optimizations on resource room teaching in H district.By investigating the resource teachers and their teaching activities in H district, the research finds some problems. The reasons leading to the problems are mainly on the following facts:Teachers are lack of training and time. Schools put a wrong emphasis on the teaching effects, even few on the resource room instructions. The society takes little care of the special education and rarely provides supports.As the problems and the reasons are clear, the ways for teaching optimization are put forward as follows.Firstly, a good resource teacher team should be formed. It is important to construct teachers’ ethics, strengthen their post-career training and reduce the workload. What’s more, teachers’ job duties ought to be clear defined from these aspects:evaluating and guiding the resource students; resolving the doubts from general teachers and cooperating with them; communicating with the parents and giving them advice.Secondly, the models on school management and evaluation need adjustment. Schools are suggested to enhance the construction of resource rooms on both hardware and software. On one hand, the management on IEP making, the usage of books and teaching materials and the teaching practice requires a specification. On the other hand, resource teachers should get thematic evaluations with multi-dimension.Thirdly, social support calls for an enhancement. By building a reasonable and perfect policy system, the relevant departments could establish a mechanism which is effective and efficient to protect the rights and interests of resource teachers. With the conception of equal education, the society should afford resources and respect each student with special needs, providing them the same opportunities.Finally, I will develop a clear awareness on the limitation of my research and ensure future research direction by introspection and summarization.
