Time-consuming as it is, vocabulary teaching in Chinese high schools is generally considered ineffective. Following are the three problems facing the teachers in the current vocabulary teaching solely based on the textbooks. Teachers fail to figure out what words they should teach and to what great lengths they should go to teach them; the teaching materials are not authentic enough; the whole vocabulary teaching procedure doesn’t involve the context, which is quite important in one’s language learning.In an attempt to work out the solution to all the problems above, this study focuses on the employment of the corpus resources in vocabulary teaching in the senior high school, following the approaches of corpus linguistics, constructivism and second language acquisition. This article involves how an Oxford English (Shanghai) S2B vocabulary teaching bank is established on the basis of the optimization and the integration of the textbooks and corpus resources and also shows how the author has put the teaching designs in it into practice. In this article, in addition, the effectiveness of the employment of the corpus resources in the English vocabulary teaching is also confirmed through experiments, in that the use of corpus resources in class is effective in increasing students’ interest in vocabulary learning, enhancing the vocabulary learning efficiency and improving students’ comprehensive English ability.
