The connection between corpus and foreign language teaching is getting closer and closer, for the popularization of computer and the blossom of modem education technologies.The early application of corpus in foreign language teaching exists in vocabulary teaching,as a result, research findings are accordingly abundant. However, in the process of practical teaching, English vocabulary teaching is one of the most difficult teaching obstacles that various teachers and students confront with. Because of the influence of some factors, such as, students’ mother language, study motivation, interests, language abilities, the learning outcomes of their vocabulary learning are not good. Because these factors can impose a direct impact on their foreign language learning. The corpus-based vocabulary teaching can solve this problem to some extent and it can bring a sort of new teaching ideas and methods so as to improve teaching effect. At present, corpus is mainly applied in college English teaching but rarely used in high school. Corpus-based research of vocabulary teaching in high school is also rare.In this thesis, the author explores how to apply corpus in the high school English vocabulary teaching specifically. The researches includes: First, how to conduct lexical meaning teaching and word collocation teaching based on corpus? Second, how to conduct English synonyms differentiation teaching based on corpus? Third, how do students think about and feel about the corpus-based vocabulary teaching class?Based on these three questions, the author uses COCA (a large free-used online corpus)to conduct research and specifically designs the teaching plans of lexical meaning teaching,word collocation teaching and English synonyms differentiation teaching. The main procedures are the followings: First, using COCA to retrieve the word which is going to be taught and then getting a large amount of language materials about this word. Second, doing some teaching processes to those language materials in order to adapt to the students’ English level. In the specific teaching, designing some student-oriented classroom teaching activities and doing some studying guide and then making some exercises by using language materials from corpus. In order to answer the first two questions, the author designs two teaching plans。At last, the author has an interview to the students who experience the corpus-based vocabulary teaching classes.In the fourth chapter of the thesis, the author shows the steps of doing corpus-based vocabulary teaching in details, makes out the two teaching designs and conducts the after-class interview to students. The author finds that high school students like and are in favor of the corpus-based vocabulary teaching. And the learning effects are also better than before.But they also put forward the shortcomings and limitations of corpus-based vocabulary teaching.The corpus-based high school vocabulary teaching design can offer some suggestions for teachers and make some guidance and framework for the author’s English vocabulary teaching in the future.
