English, as a language, is social. Learners need to develop the ability of using English by communicating with others. With the development of China’s reform and opening policy, English education has made great progress. However, the traditional teacher-centered English teaching ignores the interaction and communication not only between teachers and students but also among students. As a result, a lot of "dumb English" phenomenon has appeared and students can’t really achieve the ability of using English. And they can’t get good grades in the oral test either. The phenomenon specially happens among rural middle school students. Now, the new English curriculum reform content reflects the close ties between society and the student’s life, the overall goal is to cultivate the students’ comprehensive language using ability. Which classroom teaching mode can promote rural middle school students’ oral English?This thesis is based on the concept, the theoretical basis of ecological classroom as well as the research on ecological classroom both at home and abroad. It is written by studying the interview, doing the ecological classroom experiment and questionnaires as well as comparing the results. The research of ecological classroom is carried out in one classes of Grade9in Suzhou XuShuguan Middle School and it’ tries to find out whether ecological classroom is more conducive to improving students English oral achievements than the traditional English classroom.By comparing the results of the two English exams, the questionnaire and the interview, it proves that ecological classroom is more conducive to improving students’ oral English achievements, inspiring the students’ interest of learning English, promoting the atmosphere in English class than the traditional English classroom. The analysis can help middle school teachers make better use of ecological classroom in their teaching.
