This MA thesis states the causes of speaking English as far as possible and the ways of encouraging students to speak English as much as possible. It mentions the reasons of developing various English speaking activities in class, and the methods and effects of developing 22 genres of English speaking activities in class (sentence completions, making sentences, uttering a sentence while making a pace, self-talking, continuing a sentence, grounds finding, depicting an object, talking of a picture or pictures, improvised translation, daily report, story telling, making a speech, oral composition, oral retelling, asking and answering questions, twenty questions, word-guessing, situation conversation, crossing information gap, acting, group discussion and debate). It explains the causes of launching varied extracurricular English speaking activities, and the means and effects of launching 4 types of extracurricular English speaking activities (foreign language day, English corner, foreign language races and English evening). And it refers to why the teachers of English ought to tolerate students' oral mistakes as far as possible and how the teachers should correct students' verbal mistakes appropriately.Besides, the thesis puts forward 3 principal perspectives: 1. Practice makes perfect. 2. Teachers of English should develop varied speaking activities both in class and after class. 3. Teachers of English are supposed to tolerate students' oral mistakes as far as possible.
