As an important branch of Science of Science, Science of Social Sciences starts in the1980s. However, it becomes an intriguing phenomenon that social sciences as the research object is almost disappearing from the researcher’s view during the development of Science of Science. It has to draw our attention facing the contrast that the necessity to deal with the social problem and the decline of subject status.Based on this, this paper brings up the idea of the construction of Science of Social Sciences afresh, trying to explore the features, rules and reasons of the discipline from two levels:discipline construction and content evolution. From the discipline evolution view, it can be roughly divided into two stages:Initial Stage (1985-1985) and Depression Stage (1996-2012).In the Initial Stage, Science of Social Sciences mainly focuses on the basic theory, trying to build social sciences theory system, because of the social transition period, branch mature and integrative trend. In the Depression Stage, there are few people mentioning it, social sciences studies being in the dispersive condition, because of the lack of independence, branch unbalanced development and so on. From the content evolution, we can see that both basic theory and applied research are involved, mainly focusing on three aspects: the evaluation of social sciences, the function of social sciences and the methods of social sciences.On the basis of analysis above, we try to put forward several possible developmental models for it. Firstly, the self-organizing model, we try to construct the operation mechanism through open mechanism, fluctuation mechanism and coordination mechanism. Secondly, the symbiotic model, we can share scientific research resources with Science of Science through the interaction. Thirdly, the branch subject preferential model, we can try to give priority to develop the relatively mature subject, and then gradually promote the overall research of social sciences.
