For high school students, reading literary classics is a good way to broaden horizons,create a sound personality, purify the soul and form a correct outlook on life. With the con-tinuous progress of the new curriculum reform, teaching ideas are being constantly updated.The new curriculum has set a high standard for the teaching of literary classics. As a result,facing the new situation of the college entrance examination in Jiangsu province, under nocircumstances can students of liberal arts class ignore reading literary classics.The author has found that the current situation is not optimistic after making a ques-tionnaire survey among teachers and students. The students’ reading is in a shallow state.What’s worse, they tend to have an acquaintance of literary classics through films andBaidu, thus making their reading in disorder. Teachers make his authority excessive, ex-pand their effects on students and prepare lessons similarly, resulting in short-sighted, sim-ple and limited education concept. Thus, teachers’ quality needs improving. Classics can-not obtain the reasonable use: the required classics are read hurriedly, optional classicsare put away and additional classics of liberal arts are prepared to meet the challenge. Theauthor is able to find problems and causes of the current teaching of classics through thesurvey on teachers and students. In order to improve the situation, the author providespractical solutions by analyzing it carefully.In the specific implementation,"teaching" and "learning" of literary arts students mustbe attached much importance. Firstly, students should be centered and develop good read-ing habits. Secondly, teachers are supposed to play a reasonable role in class and be happyto read to improve qualities of themselves. Only in this way can teachers be wiser to makeclasses efficient. Thirdly, the order of teaching materials does not need to be followed andthey can be reconstructed, breaking the authority of books. Lastly but not least, teachingmethods should be designed according to the characteristics of students of Liberal Arts,such as comparison and inspiration, interpretation and comparison, presupposition andgeneration, planning and activation. In a word, we should adopt appropriate methods andmake reading really penetrated into the daily teaching, which can make it no longershort-sighted just depending on the College Entrance Examination.
