Followingthe Qiushi school, a mount of new-style schools were set up in Huizhou during the sameperiod.Huizhou was composed of six counties. The difference of these counties in politics, economy and geography made the new-style schools in each county present their owncharacter. As the Shexian County was the seat of Huizhou prefecture, the new-styleschools in Shexian county always took the lead. The new-style schools in Xiuning Countydeveloped slowly, influenced by the political reasons. However, during the period ofRepublic of China, the establishment of No.2middle school and the No.4school for girlsdrove the development of the local new-style school. The new-style schools in WuyuanCounty were restrained by the local education policy, especially for the primary schools. The Wuyuan County set up two normal schools in the late Qing dynasty, which differ itfrom the other counties.
