The new chemistry curriculum of our country advocates “several versions of astandard”. After a new cycle of curriculum reform, high school curriculum standardexperimental textbook present with a new look. Illustrated is a common feature ineach version of the textbook. The textbook not only pay attention to the words, butalso pay attention to the picture effect, enhancing the readability of the textbook,stimulating students’ interest in learning chemistry.In order to develop and utilize new curriculum standard experimental textbooksof senior high school effectively. In this essay, the three editions of high schoolchemistry compulsory textbooks that have been issued will be compared and analyzedin five aspects, which is the amount of the illustration、the present forms of theillustration、the contents of the illustration、the composed form of the illustration、theapplication of the illustration, then investing and analyzing that teachers and studentsunderstanding of illustrations and usage. The aims to offer some inspiration and helpto teachers’ teaching and students’ studying, while give some reference to thefollowing design and modification of the illustration in the textbooks. The work willmay provide a theoretical basis for our future research and compilation of textbooks.Five parts are included in this essay, the contents of each part is as follows.The introduction part of this assay, the content and the method of research on thetopic, the reason, research significance, research present situation, will been made asystematic summary. The theory part, related to Dual Coding Theory of Visual andLanguage Learning, Computation Theory of Vision, and Constructivism theory. Afterthat, the illustration in the three editions of high school chemical compulsorytextbooks are compared and analyzed in the fifth part. There is the amount of theillustration, the present forms of the illustration, the contents of illustration, thecomposed form of the illustration, the application of the illustration. The aim isdevoted to find out the similarities and the distinctions in illustration design devotingto those five aspects. Through questionnaire investigation to learn the differentregions of the teachers and students about the textbook illustrations understanding andusage, the collected data is analyzed and relevant conclusions.Finally, according to the comparative study contents on three editions of thechemistry compulsory textbook illustrations, and questionnaire survey, the researchconclusion are obtained.
