The Compilation And Revision Of College Students’ Sportsmanship Value

Based on a wide range of literature review, this research takes college students as the target group, and is aimed at making a scale on sportsmanship among them using data on their understanding and behaviors towards the concept from interviews and investigations and consensus qualitative research method analysis, and providing a proper definition and structure of the conception.This research is divided into two parts. The first part adopts qualitative research method to define what sportsmanship is and provide a source of subject scale. Firstly, this study provides a definition of the concept: behaviors referring to respect and cooperation towards each other among athletes, coaches, referees, audience and match officials, and learning and improving after a match. To achieve this conclusion, the researcher did a deep and wide literature review on Sociology, Ethics, Physical Education and Psychology, and structured the concept initially. In the next, the researcher discussed it with the research supervisor and group, and experts including athletes, coaches, referees and audience, and worked out the final version with qualitative research method.Secondly, a scale on sportsmanship among college students is made and tested. The original version of the scale contains 69 items regarding elements from the definition above. After exploratory factor analysis, a final version is settled and contains 30 items in 6 sub-scales, including obedience to sport rules, respect, commitment, fairness, true ability and improvement. The researcher conducted a sample test on the scale, and the results on confirmatory factor analysis and Internal consistency coefficient and 1/2 the reliability test indicates both the construct validity and the reliability are acceptable, and that this scale is qualified to test sportsmanship among college student.
