“The knowledge base” of teacher educators constitutes the core of their professional knowledge, and the deepness and promotion of professional knowledge will determine the quality and depth of professional development. The development of “the knowledge base” for Dutch teacher educators leads educational professionals and researchers to think and evaluate the components of teacher educators’ professional knowledge. On the other hand, the development also gives some reference and illumination to deepen teacher educators’ professional knowledge structure from practical perspective.The constitution of “The knowledge base” mainly focuses on the lack of research time and the deficiency in selection and identification of the growing amount of available literature. The Dutch Association of Teacher Educators(VELON) organized an international expert meeting, and finally formed “The knowledge base” in iterative and interactive approach. In order to investigate the relevance and usefulness of “The knowledge base”, a survey among teacher educators is carried out by VELON. The results show that the theoretical texts are considered quite useful by the Dutch teacher educators. They added some new knowledge to their existing knowledge and this new knowledge was perceived as quite useful. The respondents expected to use “the knowledge base” regularly. This also illustrates the value and credibility. However, towards the analysis, we also find that: “The knowledge base” faces some challenges in terms of the maintenance, further development and optimization.This paper is a study of the construction and effect of “The knowledge base”. It consists of five parts; the basic content is as follows:Introduction interprets the reasons, literature review, research methods and concepts.The first chapter interprets the meaning and analyses the reason of “The knowledge base”.The second chapter instructs the whole developing process of “The knowledge base”: identification possible domains and fill the domains with content.The third chapter paraphrased the research result of the relevance and usefulness of “The knowledge base”, which was surveyed by VELON.The fourth chapter summarizes some reflection and appreciation of “The knowledge base” in the Netherlands. On the one hand, it reflects the professionality, availability and openess; on the other hand, its further development and optimization of “the knowledge base”still faces challenge.
