Occupational abilities, as a necessary skill used in any kind of job, are a guarantee for successful occupation developments. With the enrollment of higher education expanding since 1999 till the 21st century today, college graduates’employment problem is becoming increasingly serious. Nowadays, a school diploma can’t help ensure getting a job; instead, this intensive employment competition has been enhanced by the fast development of knowledge-based economy.Career development is necessary for one to fulfill himself. The quality level of employment is shown by college graduates’career development, therefore, a smooth and successful career development is what every graduate hopes for. Under severe employment circumstances, when employed, will college graduates obtain better career development with their own occupational abilities? Will occupational abilities obviously influence career development? Suppose it will, in what way will it affect? All these will be discussed in this thesis.As to answer the questions mentioned above, the thesis sampled 1014 employed students, who were accepted as full-time college graduates and junior college graduates during 2003 to 2013 from Hangzhou, Chengdu, Changsha, Guilin. With the application of Factor Analysis Method and Multiple Linear Regression Method, based on the statistic and analysis of the survey results obtained by using SPSS 17.0, this thesis discusses how employed college graduates’ occupational abilities influence their career development from the aspect of regression analysis, and the results are as followed.(1) There’s no evident connection between occupational abilities and salary levels. Graduates with higher occupational abilities are not paid more than those with lower ones. Salary levels are easily affected by length of services, gender, education background, types of working places and social capital.(2) The improvement of occupational abilities helps promotion. With higher management ability comes with higher chances for promotion. The times of promotion is influenced by factors such as length of services, gender, social capital, types of units and types of working places.(3) The improvement of occupational abilities helps improve career development planning, among which comprehension and communication ability, management ability help more. Meanwhile, types of units and position levels will affect planning as well too some degree.(4) The improvement of occupational abilities helps improve job satisfaction. Studies show that graduates’self developments decide their final job satisfaction. What’s more, the connection between their present jobs and their expectations for careers, which is positively linked to the former, leaves obvious impact on job satisfaction.The author discusses relevant questions while conducting empirical researches. Based on the results of researches, he proposes some suggestions so as to solve the problems on how employed college graduates’occupational abilities influence their career developments.1. Organize various club activities to exercise students’management ability; 2. Improve students’ comprehension and communication ability with the help of public information platform; 3. Improve students’analyzing ability by combining training base with social practice; 4. The government should pay more attention to the active role played by human resources, and restrict the negative use of social capital.
