With the development of educational information resources and teaching management systems, many universities offer online courses as a supplement on basis of the traditional face to face teaching, in order to make full use of sharing, interactivity and other advantage of online courses. Currently thematic discussion is an important form of online learning activity, in this teaching mode, how to encourage teachers and students to participate in the learning interaction actively have been an urgent problem in achieving optimal quality of education. While the recent study on teacher-student interaction more inclined to analyze the static relationship and lack of quantitative analysis, which cannot meet the dynamic characteristics of teacher-student interaction. Course forum records massive data related to teacher-student interaction in the form of web logs, database and so on. The development of learning analytics has brought the opportunity for data mining of learning and review educational decision. This study extracts general characteristics in the process of teacher-student interaction from three dimensions:the content in teacher-student interaction, social network structure and timing characteristics. Based on the above purpose, the work I have done and explored is as follows:Firstly, build thesaurus of curriculum. We extract thematic terms in each topic from textbooks, arrange the thematic terms according to the semantic relations between them. Then the thematic terms are assigned weights according to a-star algorithm. We compare the thematic terms extracted from forum with the thesaurus, analyze the content features of teacher-student interaction.Secondly, analyze the structure and the central role of social networks. We build matrix of relationships based on relational data collected form the forum and course, use the tools NetMiner4.0 and Ucinet6.0 to measure the internal structure of basic properties of social networks and groups from the perspective of the whole social networking and small group relationship.Thirdly, explore the rules of teacher-student interaction. We study the timing features presented during the process of teacher-student interaction in classroom and forum from three aspects:interaction behavior, content and density in the process of teaching. The main findings are as follows:Firstly, the content in teacher-student interaction appears a normal distribution, which is in line with the general rules of students’ cognitive abilities; The highest value of interaction density distributed during teacher participating in. This indicates that the effective participation of teachers have a significant impact on activities.Secondly, both of classroom and forum are sparse network, the reciprocity and connectivity in classroom is higher than the forum and students accustomed to the traditional mode of interaction; Teacher is the central figure in classroom and forum, he master the important information access in network; Learning popularity of assistant is higher than teacher in the forum, while he is in the position of brokers and his cohesion is not high in small group.Thirdly, the study finds some problems in thematic discussion:first posted is unreasonable, cohesion is low between assistant and students and so on. Meanwhile, the article makes corresponding improvement strategies through comparison of analysis features.I hope the study all above can help to understand teacher-student interaction, provide guidance on the theory and methods for teaching decision and the design of thematic activity and offer more efficient and personalized service for learners.
