This paper firstly introduces the research status of the function of primary and secondary schools.On the basis of previous scholars have done as well as they receive the results, the author find most of these results concentrated in one stage, especially in high school.But the results pay less attention to the content and thought of function in primary school stage,lack of the researches to integrate the primary school and middle school together, lack of research work to comb the evolution history of function in junior high school and primary school.Therefore, the main object of this paper is the contents and ideas of function throughout the entire period of compulsory education, research methods are the analysis of historical documents and textbook analysis, which mainly focused on the longitudinal evolution of the function in primary schools.In the second chapter, based the mathematical textbooks and syllabus(curriculum standard)published by the people’s Education Press every year and textbooks of the current six three compulsory education stage,the author chose the typical ones, combined with many documents,divided the history of function of textbooks into three stages, While taking the third stage apart as the typical textbook of the third stage as the third chapter,making a reality analysis of the content of function,and as the interpretation of the present textbooks, and the interpretation focus on the content and ideas of function in primary school which the previous research less involved.In the forth chapter, restate the thinking of function teaching in primary and middle school,hopefully caused the teachers’ and students’ attention from primary and middle school.And improve it.Since the function is a main line of development of mathematics textbooks in primary and secondary schools,and also the basic knowledge of learn maths well,cultivate mathematics interest and thinking ability.So it is necessary for us to systematically understand the contents of this part.Finally, in the part of the conclusion,on the basis of expounding the history changing and reality thinking,puts forward some suggestions on the thought of function in the improvement of mathematical textbooks and teaching in elementary and middle schools.Function in elementary and middle schools has kept the appropriate content after several changes.Our teachers should find the teaching value,enhance the function awareness,build the function situation,improved the teaching effect based on the lacking in function teaching.Our textbook should also take it into account in the process of design.
