| As the development of economic globalization makes the world closer together, and English that the most widely used language in the world, has had a profound impact in communication. Along with the social progress, the requirement of talents has changed. In 2001, the ministry of education began to set English in elementary school, and make the detailed requirements of the language skills that students shuold achieve. Reading is one of the important input form of language learning, which can help students cultivates self-confidence, comprehensive ability. Reading is an important ability in English learning. As we all know, although learning English in Primary School focus on developing the skill of oral and arousing students’interest, now the ability of reading is more popular. According to the requirement on Primary English Reading by New Curriculum, which says students in this stage should read simple story and cultivate the habit of reading by the meaning word in groups. However, there are so many problems and difficulties in practical teaching, such as, some teachers do not yet fully appreciate the impact of reading, pay more attention on the vocabulary, lack of reading resources and guiding, which affect the development of English learning in Primary School.This paper is to survey the problems of the English reading teaching in the NO.1 Experimental Primary School in Tongliang District of Chongqing, and then mainly focuses on analyzing the causes for problems that have arisen. Meanwhile, it gives some advices for developing and improving the ability of reading and reading teaching in higher grade.The paper consists of five parts. The first part provides the background of the topic and shows the reason, significance and method of research. The second part mainly talks about the basic theory of the English reading teaching of high-grade. The third part investigates the present status of the school and English reading learning by questionnaire and interview. The fourth part analyses the causes for the problems that have arisen in high-grade. And the last part is giving some solutions about how to improve high-grade students’ ability of reading from the aspect of teacher, school,parents and students themselves. |
