In recent years, modern tennis has been developing quickly in both its speed and strength, which results in a stricter requirement of competitive abilities in tennis matches and more attention being paid to the scientific level of tennis training. Our country attaches great importance to the women tennis, which has developed quickly into a kind of competitive sports. But compared with the world’s top women tennis players, Chinese women tennis players still have a long way to go to strengthen their competitive ability. In view of this, the paper takes the 2014 U.S. Open Tennis as an example, analyzing the unbalanced structure of competitive abilities of Chinese women tennis player Peng Shuai on the singles court and the approach of compensation by means of literature, video observation, statistics and logical analysis.Based on a review of the unbalanced structure and the compensation theory, the paper focuses its research on the competitive abilities of Peng Shuai in the 2014 U.S. Open Tennis.Through analyzing her psychology and physical strength as well as the statistics of the skills played by Peng Shuai, such as the serving, receiving, backhand, volley tennis and overhand smash, the paper tries to find the characteristics of her skills and point out the strengths and the weaknesses of on the singles court. In a word, at present, Peng Shuai, who is clever in tactics and tough in style, has an unbalanced competitive ability. She is well known for her forehand attack in the field of women’s tennis around the world, and her backhand and forehand attacks are excellent. However, in account of serve, her first serve is relatively slow in speed, and the second serve may rotate or change in the angle. What’ more, she makes fewer changes in receiving balls and sometimes errors happen to her backhand. Apart from these, she is lack of an active attack and a kind of stability in smash skills. Together with the fairly poor competitive state at the first beginning of the competition and the obvious weakness in physical strength, these are the factors that limit Peng Shuai to the success of the competition. Meanwhile, this paper can provide some reference to Peng Shuai in the training, and further can be effectively used as a theoretical guidance for Peng Shuai and other women tennis players in both their daily training and matches in the future.
