Career guidance education forms an integral part of Vietnam’s education system, the government places high emphasis on school’s career guidance program and the distribution of jobs of the graduates. However, the current situation of High School Principals’practices in managing such programs in Thanhhoa Province is not optimistic, thus the need to study in depth the problems arose and to seek counter measures. As such, this research aims at studying the management policies adopted by High School Principals in Thanhhoa Province through surveys and data, eventually addressing the relevant issues.As a background to the research, career guidance education has direct contemporary relevance, both socially and nationally in Vietnam. I will first provide a comprehensive overview of the relevant concepts and study of career guidance education in the country. Investigations were also conducted on aspects of career guidance programs, such as execution and management, in High Schools of Thanhhoa Province. In the aspect of management, the following issues were highlighted from the investigations:lack of proper planning, relevance, practicality and creativity in the program, inadequate information provided for students on social demand and needs for respective skills, inability to motivate teachers through good management policies and lack of emphasis on the program. These problems arose mainly due to the failure to see the importance of the program by both supervisors and teachers. Detailed study and analysis of the above-mentioned problems reveals the disparity in the understanding of career guidance education between schools and parents. Other conclusions gathered include the monotonic delivery of the program, existence of inconsequence factors affecting management of the program and adoption of effective policies by some principals in managing the program.Based on the theory of education management, to counter these problems, the following aspects were presented and discussed in the paper:reinforce the importance of career guidance education, enhance the quality of career guidance program, provide institutional structures to support the program, enrich the content of the program and specify requirement for managing the program.
