Learning motivation is one of the core issues of the educational circles. According to the modern psychology research, there is a obvious correlation between motivation and academic performance, which is only after the correlation between intelligence and academic performance. Above that,the researches of how to stimulate the students’ motivation for learning in class, and how to promote the students’ to access knowledge and improve the teaching effect in the teaching process become a problem to be solved.As a vocational education, most students in the vocational school are lack of clear learning objectives and learning enthusiasm which can lead to the learning efficiency, and all of these are due to the main reason of low motivation of learning. The research is based on the ARCS Motivation Model(Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction) which is made from American psychology professor John ? Keller. Based on the Vocational Computer Application Basic Course and the characteristics of the vocational school students, we put forward a set of teaching design solution and put this solution into the practical teaching work in this research, then analyze its effect and put forward some countermeasures and suggestions. This research is divided into five parts, including The Introduction, The Overview and Design of the Motivation Theory, The analysis of the Vocational School Students’ Learning Motivation, The research on the Teaching Practice of ARCS Motivation Design Pattern, Conclusion and Expectation.The paper applies the ARCS model of motivation on computer teaching of middle vocational school. Firstly, it analyzes the characteristics of middle vocational school students’ motivation, and points out that cultivating and inspiring students’ learning motivation is an urgent demand in current middle vocational education. Then according to the students’ existing computer level and computer course features, the paper puts forward motivation strategy based on ARCS model of motivation design, and the strategy is proved in teaching process. Finally, it evaluates practice effect of motivation strategy from different angles. According to the results of survey and analysis and comparison of students’ academic performance, the paper finds out both level of motivational emotion and academic performance are got a certain degree of improvement. So, application of ARCS model of motivation design is valid in computer teaching of middle vocational school and can stimulate students’ learning motivation.
