Objectives:To compare the Tai Chi with other different types of physical activity in influence on risk of falling in elderly people. Try to figure out the effectiveness of different types of physical activity in risk of falling in the elderly people. Authenticate the effect of some factors in determining people’s risk of falling. Methods:People aging from 50 to 80 in Beijing were chosen. Put subjects in different groups of physical activity by checking the questionnaire results, into different groups of age as well. Use the ANCOVA to figure out all the factors, apart from the history, in determining the function of balance system among elderly people. Then construct a Logistic Regression Model by all this factors to regenerate an excellent system of contribution that the factors have in causing the vicissitude of the risk of falling. Finally, calculate a rate of falling in one year through Kaplan-Meier Estimator, to mirror the effect of different types of physical activity in another perspective.Result:Tai Chi has a significant effectiveness on balance of elderly people, so do the age, however, gender does not show the same effect on it. Both Tai Chi and jogging, as an ameliorator, has an ability of improving balance in elderly people, otherwise, some clinical measurement factor, as a damper, if degenerating, would actually increase the risk in elderly people. The rate of falling in jogging group is much higher than the Tai Chi one’s, comparing the control group, is lower significantly as well. Conclusion:While there is no utility to present the risk of falling through comparing the stable balance factors and clinical measurement factors singly, they do emerge the differences of the function of balance system in different type of elderly people. According to the Logistic Regression model, physical activity, as a damper, has the ability that significantly reducing the possibility of falling. Besides, the vestige of the function of the balance system could deteriorate the rate of falling. Both physical activities could reduce the risk of falling significantly. Besides, Tai Chi has the ability that ameliorating the balance of elderly people even more.
