Our country is the kingdom of poetry. It carries rich Chinese culture and poetry teaching is also an important part of reading teaching. Educators pay more attention to it. However, in the classroom, teachers don’t know how to choose the poetry and the loss is that they never know what is taught by reason of the particularity of language course and language teachers’ different literacy. As a result, many teachers fail to teach some teaching materials or teach students something wrong. In this paper, the author will sort out teaching poetry in PEP primary school language. According to the content of course, the intentions and explanation of teaching materials, and students’ learning, the author will give some suggestion about how to select poetry and how to improve students’ abilities in order to help teachers solve the problems of poetry teaching. Practice has proved that several strategies and methods are effective. They can help teachers choice poetry and also promote students’ reading ability, imagination, aesthetic capacity.
