As the increasingly prosperous on competition-performance market, as whileas the huge social and economic benefits mega-events produced, more and morescholars stay focus on the relationship between city image and events. City imagebenefits from people’s impression after obtain its information. Using itsadvantage on scope, speed and depth in the process of information transmission,news media makes effect on the formation of urban impression in people’s minddirectly and indirectly. On the basis of summarizing and analyzing the foreignnews report in2013Shanghai Formula1Grand Prix, the purpose of this paperis to discuss how and how much foreign news media mentioned the city, what reporttendency was from different news resources respectively, as well as whetherforeign news report had effect on Shanghai city image enhancement. This paperaims to give targeted suggestion through finding out the influence of mega-eventfor hosting city image.The main conclusions of this paper are as follows:First, international mega-events held in Shanghai draw attention overseaswith more news report, which improve the visibility of Shanghai. Increase ofoverseas media report and improvement of city image evaluation show overseasmedia’s positive significance on shaping and global spreading the city image.Second, overseas media concentrate more attention on the dissemination ofadvanced science and technology, high-speed improvement and the prosperoustourism of Shanghai.Third, Shanghai Formula1Grand Prix increases the positive report from theoverseas media, which is good for the shaping and spreading of positive imageof Shanghai.Forth, media reports also had negative reports during the event operationwhich illustrates Shanghai F1has brought bad influence for city imagetransmission.Fifth, the number of China’s media outlets is smaller than overseas’. Inthe face of mega-events, media outlets not only assume the responsibility ofreporting the sport events itself and creating an favorable environment ofinternational public opinion, but also shape positive Shanghai’s city image.China media outlets only own a small proportion of sport event media report andless right of speech. They usually put more strength on event itself withoutnon-event report.Sixth, foreign media reported that a small number from China.Foreign media,in the face of the large sports events not only assume the responsibility ofthe sports event itself, reported, shouldering more affect English media andpublic opinion through media reports, creating an environment of favorableinternational public opinion, shape good city image, and small proportion ofChina’s foreign media reports, say not heavy, and the vast majority are storiesabout the event itself, the lack of the events reported.
